About Gingertown Nashville

It’s not just Santa’s little elves that are hard at work at Christmas time. It’s the design and construction community too! Founded in 2006 in Washington D.C. by David M. Schwarz Architects (DMSA), and presented in Nashville by ESa since 2010, GINGERTOWN™ is a one-of-a-kind holiday initiative that brings together architects, engineers and contractors with building enthusiasts to create a holiday village made completely of gingerbread and candy. And, it’s all for a good cause.

Every year, DMSA creates a new themed master plan for the magical town of ginger and each of the sponsor cities bring that plan to life. Like all great master plans, the GINGERTOWN™ plan has
the sense and rhythm of a traditional planned city with communal and civic-minded centers, green spaces and a strong pedestrian culture. But unlike other towns, the streets of GINGERTOWN™ are paved in chocolate and candy, and may have lamp posts constructed of candy canes.

Like many of their steel and concrete contemporaries, GINGERTOWN™ buildings often feature intricate structural support systems, functional moving parts and working lights. They are even subject to a town building code! The confectionery creations are detailed with chocolate, frosting, sprinkles, gum drops and dozens of other edible (and sugary) building materials. The handcrafted structures are then donated and put on display at local healthcare and community support organizations to help spread the message of joy and hope during the holidays.
